Ari
is your average sixteen year old male. Actually, he's a little below average.
Quiet and serious, his family and friends cheerfully push him around, not
that he seems to mind much. Ari is a 'mute' character, in the sense
that you put his words in his mouth. However, except for the sarcastic
bastard choice offered thirdly, these responses pretty much geared towards
the push-over, doormat personality set out for him in the beginning.
Ari's first weapon is a stick (which makes me think of Secret of Evermore's
single good line... 'Versus some guy with a stick!'), but later and for
the rest of the game he uses a broad sword (which, as can be seen in battle,
is somewhat heavy for him.. too cute!).
Evil
King Stan (whose full name, Stanley Hihat Trinidad XIV, is among the more
hilariously ridiculous I've encountered) spends most of the story possessing
Ari's shadow. Self-centered, immature (especially for someone who's
300 years old..), as well as often angsty and over-sensitive, Stan delivers
most of the best lines in the game. Used to being worshipped and
feared as the harbringer of Doom & Evil, Stan is understandably upset
by the fact that most everyone who encounters him now, as an impotent shadow,
finds him rather comical. Stan is not a playable character, being
just a shadow, but he does help out the team in battle from time to time.
Stan's mission in the game is to regain all the power stolen from him by
impostor Evil Kings, thus allowing him to go about the very evil task of
taking over the world. However, the actual business of doing this
helps the common people-a point which is incredibly irritating to him.
^_^; Stan wavers between petty, childish immaturity (as when he's arguing
with Rosalyn) and small doses of surprising insight..but most of the time
he's just a baby. I love him. =P
Possibly
one of the greatest female RPG characters ever, Rosalyn at first surpasses
Ari in strength and then still manages to keep with him later in the game.
The first member of your team (besides Stan, but he doesn't really count..),
Rosalyn is a 22 year old hero (and really not just _a_ hero, but THE hero)
whose life was ruined in her first encounter with Stan (more on that in
the story section...), three years prior to the game's events. Brave,
strong-willed, and a master of the 'lightning rapier', Rosalyn's main flaw
is her vanity, as she is very easily flattered. She also has no problem
stooping to Stan's level of pettiness when the two of them bicker. :3;
Rosalyn (along with Stan and Ari) is my favorite character.
A
45 year old scholar who joins you for the double purpose of studying ghosts
and studying Rosalyn (ew!). Kisling tends to speak elaborately, often
with a fair amont of gibberish, and though he's your third party member
he's really quite useless. Still, he's amusing in his own right,
even if his flattery of Rosalyn is somewhat disturbing.
Not
a playable character but a constant member of your traveling party regardless,
Princess Marlene makes Ari her servant as recompense for 'rushing into
her arms' (he was actually pushed by Stan) when they first meet.
Naive, self-centered, and often condescendingly rude, Marlene is at first
incredibly annoying, but she grew on me, at least, as she does change somewhat
over the course of the story. To say any more about her would be
a spoiler, so if you want to know the rest head over to the story section...
Switching
to CG models since I don't have artwork for the remaining characters..
o_o Epros is a 'mysterious wizard' who fights with playing cards and in
a tux. He speaks entirely in rhyme, which is usually cheap and not
poetic, thus making it all the more amusing (or painful, if you're a poetry
fan). Although I'm not as fond of him as I am of, say, Rosalyn, I
still think he's great in his own right. And he floats instead of
running. Can't beat that.
Surprisingly
easy-going for someone who loves bloody battle, Big Bull is not among my
favorites (admittedly mainly because he's not attractive. Yes, I
am a shallow bitch), but he's a good addition to the party. He stumbles
into things (sign posts namely) often, but he's not stupid, and in fact
is the most peaceful of the entire party, which is somewhat ironic, given
his single-minded devotion to his muscles.
Bubbly,
cute, and with aspirations to be a teen idol singer (she fights with a
microphone..), Linda is truly representative of all that is evil in the
universe (okay, she's not, really). She and Big Bull have no relation,
despite both of them sporting horns. :3; Linda's not exactly dumb, but
it's not like there's a whole lot going on upstairs either. Mainly
she just seems cluelessly naive, but at least she's devoted to her dream.
As with Marlene, to say much more about Linda would be a potential spoiler,
