| I recently acquired the
Angel Sanctuary OAV DVD. The basic question here is, should you?
Overall, I would say yes, though I hope the copy you find is not the same
as mine. This is because mine suffered from English subtitles that
were probably written by people who do not speak English. ^^;; They were
painfully atrocious, seriously. But that's beside the point.
There were, as to be expected, a few changes to the story, and much was left out (mainly scenes in Heaven, the action took place almost entirely on our lovely Earth). However, the animation was top notch, fluid (except that in a couple scenes, namely the opening, Setsuna runs like a gimp), with beautifully painted cels. The music was equally beautiful, though I didn't realize until I got the soundtrack that the title theme is sung in English. o.O One thing that disappointed was the fact that said title theme, while wonderful on its own, was not Sanctus, the title theme of the drama disc. I love Sanctus *__* Anyway. I was also disappointed with what was left out--I wanted to see animated Raziel and Zaphikiel and I did not ;_; However, at the very end of the OAV there's an extremely short scene between none other than Metatron and Sevotharte, in which it is revealed that (big spoiler here XD) Metatron has.. BLUE GREEN HAIR o.o I'm serious, I never knew this. I've never seen -any- colored pictures of Metatron, I just assumed it was some sort of light silvery blond color. But blue green hair rocks, though once again I digress. Though many of the angels were not seen, it did condense the plot of the first few books very well, and it ended on a excellent cliffhanger. I very much hope that another OAV is made, I want to see Setsuna traipsing through hell X3 |
